thegospel

Friends, the Gospel is the "power of God unto salvation." The Scripture teaches that if we receive the Word of God it has the power to save us (cf. Jas. 1:21). That being the case, it is critical that we understand what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is. God has set forth his plan of redemption of mankind within the pages of His New Testament Scriptures. It is the aim of this article to help us find and understand what is involved in our salvation under the New Covenant of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us consider the question "
What must I do to be saved?"

This is the single most important question anyone can ever ask. How can we know? Where do we go for the answer to this question? Jesus says in John 12:48 "the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day."

That tells me we need to look into the Word of God for What Jesus said about this very important topic.

Perhaps we might wonder, "what am I being saved from?" Well, we are being saved from eternal judgment for the sins we most certainly will have committed in our lifetime. You see, you and I have a soul, and our souls will exist somewhere in eternity - either in heaven or in hell (the place made for the devil and his angels).

The Bible teaches, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). So everyone is in need of salvation. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ. And “salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

God’s way of Salvation:

1.) Hear the “good news” (i.e. the gospel) of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:14,17)

2.) Believe (Hebrews 11:6; Acts 8:37; Mark 16:16; John 8:24)

3.) Repent of our sins (Luke 13:3,5; Acts 2:38; Acts 17:30; Mark 10:15)

4.) Confess faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:36-37; Romans 10:9)

5.) Be baptized (immersed in water) for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:37-41; 1Peter 3:21; John 3:3-5; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-8; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:26-27; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:34-39; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 4:5)

It is at the point of immersion in water, that God himself performs a surgery of sorts, a spiritual surgery (Col. 2:11-12). In baptism we have our sins washed away (Acts 22:16), being put into Christ (Gal. 3:27), clothing ourselves with Christ (Gal. 3:27). Another very important fact is that, in baptism, we are added to the Lord's church (Acts 2:41, 47).

6.) Remain faithful for the rest of our lives and carry our cross daily (Revelation 2:10; Matthew 24:13; Luke 9:23).

This process of “remaining faithful” consists of living the Christian life in obedient service to our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, who reigns over His kingdom from Heaven. Those who “walk in the light” thus receive the continual forgiveness of sin by the blood of Christ. (1 John 1:7)
